Day 7 &8
Ended up anchoring for the first time last night (day 6) Mark maneuverd between wing dams (boat destroying submerged piles of rocks used to control river flow) and we had a very peaceful night!
Went thru 2 locks and encountered 4 Tows.
Day 7 saw us traveling from Fairport,IA to Burlington, IA where we grounded again trying to get into a marina. Ended up at the municipal docks which were free without any services but a lot of Lookey loos. (See picture under tall bridge). 3 locks and 5 tows.
Day 8 had us floating away @ about 8:15 where we had to have a swing bridge open for us to go thru. It was pretty cool due to the fact that it was a two story. (Trains on the bottom and cars on the top! Day 8 is not done yet due to our 2 hour wait (so far) for lock #20. Lock 4 was our first lock thru when we began this journey.
Now for the meaning of my title....
I have not been use to flies in a long time, however things are different when you’re idling Down a river..yuck, of course, I don’t sing shoo fly when I whack them but it went with the showboat part.
In reality these boats are really mini cruise ships but I didn’t want to get into a “cruises and bruises” theme. So, on with the pics.
